Research Universities (12-18 months before)

UK Student Visa Process

Step 1: Receive CAS

After accepting your unconditional offer and paying any deposits, the university will issue a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies).

Step 2: Pay Immigration Health Surcharge

Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) which gives you access to the UK's National Health Service. Costs £470 per year of your course.

Step 3: Complete Online Application

Fill out the online Student visa application form on the UK government website. Pay the application fee (£363 for students).

Step 4: Book Biometric Appointment

Schedule and attend an appointment at a Visa Application Centre to provide your fingerprints and photograph.

Step 5: Submit Documents

Submit all required documents, including financial evidence, CAS, passport, and academic qualifications.

Step 6: Receive Visa

If approved, you'll receive your visa (BRP - Biometric Residence Permit) which you'll collect after arriving in the UK.

Financial Requirements

Course fees for the first year

You must show you have enough money to pay your course fees for the first year as stated on your CAS.

Living costs for up to 9 months

£1,334 per month for courses in London (£12,006 for 9 months)
£1,023 per month for courses outside London (£9,207 for 9 months)

Funds must be held for at least 28 consecutive days

The closing balance must not fall below the required amount at any point during the 28-day period, ending no more than 31 days before your application.
